CredibleMind: Mental Health Support for Northwest Colorado
Routt County Public Health, in partnership with neighboring counties, is excited to introduce CredibleMind to Northwest Colorado. This platform offers self-care tools to support mental health and wellbeing, addressing issues like anxiety, depression, and workplace wellness. Users can access a range of resources, and those with higher-risk assessments will be directed to additional support, including 988 or the "Need Help Now" page. Available in both English and Spanish, CredibleMind is free, confidential, and secure for all community members.
What You Can do to Help Someone Who is Struggling
If you are concerned that you or someone you know might be experiencing depression or suicidal thoughts, prioritize mental health. There are things you can do that help. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention suggest these steps:
-
Learn the signs of someone who may be at risk for suicide. Often there are changes in behavior such as mood swings, angry outbursts, or loss of interest in activities they love.
-
Reach out to someone who you think may be struggling. Trust your gut if you are concerned. Ask directly if they have thoughts of ending their life - research shows this is helpful and does not make them susceptible to the idea.
-
Connect those who are struggling to help. Share the 988 Suicide Crisis Life Line as well as general and other resources for minority communities.
Stay Educated
Did you know that in Colorado, suicide is the second leading cause of death for ages 10-44. Understanding the facts and reaching out can make a life-saving difference. Check out the resources below to learn more about.
Preventing suicide: a resource for media professionals
There is evidence that media reports about suicide can enhance or weaken suicide prevention efforts. Widely disseminated stories of death by suicide are often followed by more suicides in the population, while stories of overcoming a suicidal crisis can lead to fewer suicides. Media professionals are encouraged to focus on presenting stories of people who overcome difficulties following a suicidal crisis while also following the Dos and Don’ts in this resource when reporting on suicide.
Healing Conversations
Healing Conversations is a one-time visit (phone, virtual, in-person) that connects those who have lost a loved one to suicide with trained volunteers who are also survivors of suicide loss. The goal of this connection is to help recent survivors navigate this challenging journey by offering support, connection and resources.
