The stars led Joan Allsberry to Steamboat Springs in 1996 and she never looked back. She couldn’t imagine a better community or setting for raising a family with husband, Todd Allsberry. Joan’s career has been split between global private sector work in the banking and legal industries as well as local small businesses and public sector work as a school counselor and health teacher from elementary to high school and alternative high school. She was the district health coordinator for the Steamboat School District for eight years writing local, state and federal grants and administering district-wide health education programming. Joan served on many local non-profit boards as well as school and community committees including First Impressions, Advocates of Routt County, Grand Futures, Juvenile Diversion and she served as the SSHS staff sponsor for the student led Gay-Straight Alliance, the first of its kind in Routt County. She led student support groups around grief, sexual assault survival and support for sobriety and she actively worked with parents offering education and bridging communication between the school, students and families. Joan partnered with local law enforcement and mental health professionals as well as state, national and local initiatives aimed at supporting healthy behaviors for our youth. For twelve years after working in the school district, Joan was a guest speaker in the elementary, middle and high schools sharing vital nutrition education with students. Joan and Todd have three wonderful daughters and feel grateful every day to be a part of this very special community.

A Steamboat Springs native, I grew up working in my family’s restaurant, the Old West Steak House. After earning a degree in Agricultural Business from the University of Wyoming and working abroad, I returned home and began a 20-year career in law enforcement. I've served in multiple roles with the Steamboat Springs Police Department and currently work as a Detective Sergeant.
Throughout my career, I’ve investigated many suicide cases and experienced personal losses to suicide within the force. These experiences have deepened my commitment to suicide prevention and awareness. I’m proud to serve on the REPS Board and support their vital work in our community.
Let me know if you'd like a version with a different tone—more formal, more personal, etc.
