Mental Health in Routt
& Moffat Counties

Suicide is the second leading cause of death for individuals aged 10-44, underscoring the vulnerability of our youth and young adults. On the Western Slope, the suicide rates can be up to three times higher than the overall rate for Colorado, reflecting the unique challenges and pressures faced by our communities.

In 2023, the Yampa Valley experienced the tragic loss of 10 individuals to suicide. Already in 2024, we have lost 8 more lives between Routt and Moffat County. This trend is deeply concerning and emphasizes the urgent need for comprehensive suicide prevention efforts.

Suicide is a critical issue in Routt and Moffat County. The Rocky Mountain region has the highest suicide rate in the country and is often referred to as the "suicide belt". This alarming statistic highlights the severity of the problem we face locally.

Event Impact

REPS’ Youth & Adult Counseling program serves all community members, regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, or documentation status. We are committed to providing inclusive, non-discriminatory support to everyone in our community, ensuring that all individuals have access to the mental health resources they need.

To combat the ongoing suicide crisis in Routt and Moffat County, REPS has been actively providing crucial support and resources to those in need. In 2023, REPS offered free and confidential counseling to 250 people, resulting in approximately 1250 counseling sessions. This essential support, valued at around $100,000, was made available to anyone in our community, highlighting the significant role that REPS plays in addressing mental health and preventing suicide.

We believe that everyone deserves access to quality mental health care. By offering these critical services and fostering a supportive community environment, REPS is making a tangible difference in the fight against suicide in our region.

In 2023, A Night of Hope & Healing raised $75,000.
The fundraising from this event specifically provided 157 people with free and confidential counseling, or roughly 789 sessions. To date, we have exceeded last year’s counseling demand compared to 2023.

Together, we can make a difference and foster hope and healing in the Yampa Valley.

One of the highlights of the event is our "Honor Wall." This dedicated space provides a safe and comforting environment for grieving, where attendees can write messages, bring photographs of lost loved ones, and light candles in their memory. Sharing our stories about the impact of suicide on our lives helps reduce stigma and save lives.

Client Testimonials

“Ever since starting my treatment I’ve felt so much more understood than ever before. Having a therapist who really listens to what my needs are helps me to better understand myself after receiving my diagnosis. This helps me to better advocate for myself so that my friends and family can understand me better and show up in ways that are helpful. I feel happier and more assured so I can spend my time wisely instead of being stuck ruminating. I feel very on track to becoming an even more adjusted version of myself and I’m so thankful to my therapist for her role in that.”

"During a personal time of need, REPS was able to provide me with some additional counseling sessions. I know this doesn’t sound like much; but with the added stress, angst, and financial burden from the Covid-19 Pandemic, their willingness and ability to help had a large impact on my life. With their support I was able to get the additional help that I needed to ensure that my life changed course from a negative to a positive direction. I am now mentally, physically, and spiritually in a better place and would not have been able to make or sustain these changes without the help of REPS. Once again I would like to thank REPS for helping me and recommend them as a great resource for anyone in need."
